Tomorrow Maps

Tomorrow Maps

“In this, our new country, I gather my children

Say,

how lucky you are, to grow up out of ashes

we have buried all the emperors for you

to play with your cousins on the grass

their bodies give.

The only thing they had to offer the earth, in the end.”

Written primarily during lockdown at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tomorrow Maps investigates places real and surreal, remembered and imagined, out of reach and deep within. The collection chronicles journeys to sites of desire, internal worlds and future civilizations and pays tribute to the people that call them home. Tomorrow Maps was published by The Hunger Press as a winner of the 2022 Tiny Fork competition.

  • “Tomorrow Maps is a dynamic lyric exploration of love, memory, friendship, and identity in the 21st century. Kai Naima Williams’ latest poetry chapbook is a powerhouse of bold voices and intimate declarations, and is not to be missed.”
